ABOUT DR. Sheppard
BIO: Dr. Sheppard was born and raised in North Carolina. After college, he spent two years living in Atlanta, GA before coming back to North Carolina for graduate school. When not in the office, Dr. Sheppard enjoys spending time with his wife and two daughters, being outside, playing sports (most recently pickleball), and he is a passionate college basketball fan.
TRAINING: Dr. Sheppard completed his undergraduate degree in Psychology at Duke University. He received his master’s and doctoral degrees in Clinical Psychology from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, with a focus on the impact of chronic social stress on both mental and physical health. During graduate school, Dr. Sheppard received clinical training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for children, adolescents, and adults. Dr. Sheppard was expertly trained in Exposure with Response Prevention by Dr. Jon Abramowitz who is an internationally renowned expert in the research and treatment of OCD. Additionally, Dr. Sheppard received expert level training in Cognitive-behavioral Couples Therapy (CBCT) from Dr. Don Baucom who is an internationally acknowledged expert in couples therapy and one of the developers of CBCT. Dr. Sheppard completed both his predoctoral internship and postdoctoral fellowship at the Durham VA Health Care System and during this time gained considerable experience working with trauma and substance use. During his time at the Durham VA, Dr. Sheppard completed all components of both the VA Cognitive Processing Therapy and Social Skills Training programs.

EXPERTISE: Dr. Sheppard has expertise in empirically supported treatments for mood and anxiety disorders, obsessive compulsive disorders, substance use, and trauma. Additionally, Dr. Sheppard has expertise in working with couples who are experiencing relationship distress. Chris is also a member of our Behavioral Parent Training program.

EVIDENCE-BASED THERAPIES OFFERED: CBT, Behavioral Activation (BA), Trauma Therapies, CBCT, Behavioral Parent Training, and Exposure and Response Prevention.
POPULATIONS SERVED:
Dr. Sheppard sees pre-teens (10-12), adolescents (13-17), and adults for individual therapy. He also provides couples and family therapy.
