Triangle Area Psychology Clinic

Our Philosophy
At the TAP Clinic, our mission is to deliver consistently excellent, expert treatment to our clients. As such, we believe in the following standards of clinical care:
Evidence-based
Practice
Evidence based practice is at the core of the TAP Clinic. We believe in the importance of delivering treatment that has been shown to be effective for each client's concerns. Consistent with the evidence-based model, TAP Clinic treatment practices are informed by current research findings in the area.

The Specialist
Model
The TAP Clinic uses the specialist rather than the generalist model of care. TAP Clinic clinicians are trained in particular specialty areas and maintain up to date continuing education, seek any needed supervision, and keep up with relevant research findings in those areas. As such, they are particularly qualified to work with clients who seek treatment for those concerns. We believe that if you were having a heart issue, it would be most effective to see a cardiologist. Similarly, if you are struggling with trauma, we recommend working with a trauma specialist. If none of the TAP Clinic clinicians have expertise that fits your needs, we are happy to make a referral to an expert outside of the clinic who is a better fit.

Real
Relationships
At the TAP Clinic, we understand that genuine, lasting change comes most readily from authentic, compassionate therapeutic relationships. We believe that the therapy relationship is a real relationship and work to honor it as such. We focus on balancing acceptance and a non-judgmental approach with encouragement and accountability to help clients reach their goals. TAP Clinic clinicians strive to give our clients the skills they need to find fulfillment, connection, and authenticity in who they are.
Our Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion
The staff at the Triangle Area Psychology Clinic value and respect individual differences. We appreciate the various identities (and their intersection) that make us unique individuals, such as those related to race, culture, gender, sexual orientation, age, ability, religion, spirituality, family composition, and many other dimensions.
We understand that every one of us lives and functions within a broader social environment and that our social environment and interactions with others can be helpful or harmful to our well-being. We know that some identities can be devalued by our social environment, as is the case with racism, sexism, genderism, ageism, heterosexism, ableism, etc. These experiences can impact how we feel about ourselves and others.
We want you to know that, as TAP clinicians and staff, we invite conversations about these issues because we understand that they can impact well-being. Our values and ethics guide us to support equality and human dignity and challenge prejudice and discrimination. Our staff is dedicated to making the Triangle Area Psychology Clinic a safe, respectful, and compassionate place for everyone who comes here.
